Anglers seeking a challenge will be interested in seeing this new study from Staten Island Yachts. The team determined which fish were the most and least caught on the Atlantic seaboard. They gathered a few years of data between 2019 and 2023 and displayed them on a full-color graph showing us which fish are common and which are elusive.
The fish with the lowest number of catches is the Gulf Flounder. This flat, brownish fish is a true challenge to catch as it blends in with its murky environment. These small masters of camouflage avoid many an angler’s hook. Albacore tunas are the second least caught. These big, powerful fish are the most popular to eat, but they put up a fierce fight when they’re caught on a line. They fight until exhaustion and are known to dive back deep into the ocean, sometimes snapping the line.
