30 Statistics About the Dangers of Wildlife to Livestock and Crops in the United States

Farmers face a myriad of challenges that stand between them and a successful herd or harvest. The team at Pulsar focused on one particular aspect in a new infographic. They gathered key statistics on the impact of wildlife on farmers. The graphic covers everything from white-tailed deer damage to feral swine attacks to coyote poaching. Deer cause particular damage by eating and trampling crops. Michigan promotes deer hunting to control the population. Many Michigan farmers have abandoned soybeans because deer consumption significantly reduces their crop yield.

As for feral swine, these hogs pose a danger in more ways than one. They’ve spread 30 bacteria and 40 varieties of parasites among livestock, humans, and pets. They’re also a powerful and aggressive species. Feral swine have killed 172 Americans. Another predator that takes a toll on livestock herds is the coyote, which was responsible for 1,579 livestock deaths in Montana in 2023.
