The team at NapLab created a study revolving around noise levels and their effects on sleep. The team used information on decibel ratings to determine the loudest and quietest places to sleep in the United States. Lower decibel ratings mean better sleep quality and higher ratings mean it will be harder for many people to fall asleep.
The study found that the quietest locations were Zephyrhills, Florida, Cape Coral, Florida, and Lakewood Township, New Jersey. The Florida locations are outside the hustle and bustle of major cities and serve as homes for retirees and snowbirds who are either not home for part of the year or live quieter lifestyles. Cape Coral has strict noise ordinances to promote a calm, quiet atmosphere. Lakewood Township in New Jersey has a slow-paced outdoor lifestyle of activities like golfing and canoeing that keep noise levels low.
As for the loudest cities, all three were in Colorado. Due to booming populations, highways, airfields, and noisy military bases, Denver, Aurora, and Colorado Springs are the noisiest places to live.
