Curious researchers at Irish Dual Citizenship created a map indicating how many international tourists every country in the world receives. The map shows us which countries tourists flock to and which are largely undiscovered by the rest of the world. The countries that tourists skip over are often very small, difficult to get to, or unsafe.
Here are the ten countries that receive the fewest international visitors:
1. American Samoa
2. Tuvalu
3. Solomon Islands
4. Marshall Islands
5. Comoros
6. Chad
7. Kiribati
8. Micronesia
9. Palau
10. Samoa
11. Moldova
Many factors could dissuade tourists from visiting a country. Terrorism, violent crime, and civil unrest keep tourists away, and most countries keep lists highlighting high-risk destinations, warning their citizens against visits. Affordability also plays a huge role in tourism. Remote countries that are difficult to access often make for a very costly trip. This map also highlights the most popular tourist destinations in the world. We can glean so much about the current global climate and travel scene from this map.
