The team at Ooma performed a study giving us insight into a specific aspect of natural disasters. Their new map demonstrates the ways small businesses are impacted by the effects of natural disasters. They looked at how much each state has in funds to help relieve small businesses in the event of a natural disaster. Their map shows which states have built up the most funds to help these businesses and suggests that businesses are most heavily impacted in these states.
The team compared each state’s available funds to the number of small businesses there to give a complete picture. Natural disasters can have a massive impact on small businesses, which have fewer safety nets than corporations. Some of the unique challenges small businesses face include physical property damage, customer and employee loss, and supply chain issues that all lead to financial hardship.
The states with the highest amount of aid available tend to experience the most natural disasters, such as Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, Texas, and Hawaii.
