The AAA State of Play team offers us a new way to think about America’s top cities, with this map highlighting the most “playful” cities. The team used some fun and fascinating metrics to score the playfulness of cities. Fifty cities were judged using a scoring system that used 10 factors.These factors were:
- Playgrounds per 10,000 people
- Trust for Public Land’s 2024 Parkscore
- Walk Score
- Bike Score
- Percentage of city area that is parkland
- Basketball hoops per 10,000 people
- Splash pads per 100,000 people
- Arcades per 100,000 people
- Toy stores per 100,000 people
- Children’s museums per 100,000 people
With so many fun factors considered, we can have confidence in the team's results. Maybe it’s a surprise since it’s known more as an adult playground, but Las Vegas, Nevada ranked number one on this list with plenty of parks, playgrounds, and basketball courts.
