Changing Firearm Homicide Rates

The team at Joslyn Law Firm shows us why firearm homicides are still a leading concern for American safety with this infographic showing us the counties with the rates of firearm homicide in both 2018 and 2022. Since 2018, gun violence has unfortunately increased. In 2018, one out of every 100,000 people were killed by a gun as opposed to roughly 5 out of every 100,000 people in 2022. While gun violence has been higher than current rates in the past, the rising numbers are troubling.

Right now, the most dangerous American county is Orleans Parish in Louisiana, home of the city of New Orleans. There were 200 firearm homicides there in 2022 alone. This is a large increase from the 106 murders in 2018. Many of the counties that appeared on the list in 2018 remained on the list in 2022, but there are a few exceptions, like the small county of Portsmouth, Virginia. The other exception is Orangeburg County, South Carolina.
