The home of the world’s oldest church is either in Rome or Tel Megiddo, depending on your opinion. The Pantheon was built in the year 25 AD, which was turned into the Basilica of St. Mary and the Martyrs in 609 AD. So today, it is a Catholic Church, but when the Pantheon was built, it was a monument to the Roman gods, rather than a place to perform religious services. If you think that excludes the Pantheon from its status of “oldest,” then you’ll find the oldest church in Tel Megiddo, Israel. Megiddo Church was built in 230 AD and was intended as a place of worship for Christians.
