The team at Playground Equipment has created a fascinating map showing us where there are the most and least public schools by state. The ranking gives so much insight into the state of public schools and American education. Take note of the states in the bottom ten with the least number of public schools per student. The bottom ten list is as follows:
- California
- New York
- Utah
- South Carolina
- Virgina
- Delaware
- Pennsylvania
- Nevada
- Maryland
- Florida
- Hawaii
- Georgia
Something that sticks out about the list is that many of these states have some of the highest populations in the country. So, that means the state population could be straining to provide enough teachers and seats in classrooms to keep up with demand. It could also mean that these states have a higher number of private schools to choose from. A public school offers free tuition to any child that lives in its district while private schools generally charge tuition.
