The top three states with the largest amount of human trafficking cases are also the top three states with the largest populations: California, Texas, and Florida. California, with a population over 39 million, had 11,254 human trafficking victims from 2019 to 2023. There is a significant gap between first and second in the ranking, with a reported 7,369 victims in Texas over the span of five years out of a population of over 30 million. Florida is not far behind Texas, as there were a reported 6,904 victims out of a population of 22 million during this time.
Georgia has the fourth largest number of human trafficking victims from 2019 to 2023, despite only having the eighth largest population. This is largely because Atlanta is home to a major global airport. The ranking changes, however, when looking at the rate of victims per 100,000 people in a population. Nevada, with a population of just over 3 million, ranks first with a rate of 58.48 victims per 100,000 people.
