The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has detailed data on the number of traffic fatalities related to drowsy driving and the results paint a stark picture of how serious the consequences can be. The team at Naplab visualized this data for us with a map displaying which counties have the highest number of drowsy driving fatalities in relation to their population. Here are the top results for the counties with the highest populations: 

  1. Jefferson County, Alabama, 3.31 % 
  2. Kern County, California, 3.06% 
  3. El Paso County, Colorado, 2.97% 
  4. Montgomery Country, Texas, 2.51 % 
  5. Adams County, Colorado, 2.46% 
The team further evaluated and broke down data for lower population counties. These were the results for the next highest population level: 

  • Bastrop County, TX: 20.72 fatalities per 100,000 
  • Coconino County, AZ: 13.19 fatalities per 100,000 
  • Midland County, TX: 20 11.63 fatalities per 100,000 
  • Hunt County, TX: 10.16 fatalities per 100,000 
  • Liberty County, TX: 9.80 fatalities per 100,000
