Someone dies in a traffic accident every 12 minutes in the U.S. These grim statistics show us that driving can be dangerous, and we need to stay vigilant and drive defensively. Many factors can affect how dangerous a certain county or highway is. That’s why the team at Convoy Car Shipping collected data to show us a map of where we’ll find the deadliest counties and highways. Population and overcrowding on the roadway can play a big role in traffic accidents, so the team made separate calculations based on overall population. The deadliest county with the highest population is Volusia County, FL, which had 648 traffic fatalities. The most dangerous roadway there is Rt. 1, which accounted for 82 of those deaths. Another illuminating fact the team uncovered was the most dangerous county in the least populated category. It was Loving County, TX, home to a population of only 51 people. This rural location was the site of 15 traffic fatalities.
