Microsoft is releasing Copilot for OneDrive in April and has
recently revealed in a new blog post how the AI integration will work for its
file hosting platform. From finding information to summarizing and extracting it
from an extensive range of files, Copilot will basically function as your
research assistant bot in OneDrive.
The files that Copilot can work with include text documents, presentations, spreadsheets, HTML pages, PDFs, and more. In addition to generating summaries, the bot can also customize them as per the user’s command, such as only adding key points or highlights from a select part.
Copilot in OneDrive is also capable of responding to natural
language prompts and answering highly specific questions about the contents of
a user’s files. For instance, it can identify and list the pros and cons of a
project or provide suggestions on improving a document.
Based on existing files, the bot can create outlines, tables,
and lists as well. According to one example shared by Microsoft, Copilot
calculates a week’s worth of beverage sales and compiles the data in a table
view by day.
Once rolled out, Copilot can be accessed on OneDrive for
web, as well as from the file viewer in Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and
SharePoint. Later, it will also be launched to work and school customers with a
Copilot for Microsoft 365 license.
