An Arm version of Google Chrome is currently in testing, as confirmed by an X user Pedro Justo, who spotted an ARM64 version of the browser in the Canary channel. It is an ARM64 version of Chrome built for Windows 11 Arm-based devices.
The only way that it has been possible to run Chrome on
Arm-powered Windows devices is via Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chips that
activate Chrome in an emulated state, which results in slow performance. Speaking
of Qualcomm, the company is working on its upcoming project for Windows on Arm,
and claims that its latest chips will surpass Apple, Intel, and AMD’s capabilities.
On the other hand, Microsoft, too, has been supporting an
Arm version of Edge that delivers a smooth performance, for quite some time
now.
There is no word from Google itself to confirm the news, as
of yet. However, a bright future of Windows on Arm seems plausible.
