Discord’s AI Chatbot ‘Clyde’ to Stop Functioning 1st of December Onwards - Visualistan -->

Discord’s experimental AI chatbot ‘Clyde’ whose testing began earlier this year, is soon going to be deactivated according to the company. More precisely, Clyde will be shut down at the end of the current month and by the 1st of December, users will no longer be able to access the chatbot in DMs, Group DMs or server chats.

Clyde was developed using OpenAI’s models, which allowed the chatbot to respond to users’ queries and have conversations with them. Although initially launched in limited testing, the chatbot was supposed to become an integral part of Discord’s chat and communities app. This makes it hard to understand why the company has decided to entirely terminate Clyde’s functioning. There is also a speculation of Discord bringing back Clyde some time later in the future as a paid Nitro-only feature.

Alongside the experimentation with Clyde, Discord has also been experimenting with other AI features, including AI-generated conversation summaries. This functionality enables users to catch up on missed conversations, hence especially facilitating servers across multiple time zones. In addition to that, Discord has been developing itself as a platform for AI developers to build AI apps for the company using funds and other resources.
