X has reportedly developed another feature exclusively for
verified accounts on its platform. The option, discovered by app researcher
Nima Owji, would allow only paying users to reply to posts in which they are
mentioned.
This means that while a reply option would still be available to non-subscribers as well, only paying users will be able to engage with certain posts. Of course, this is another strategy to indirectly urge more people to sign up for X’s verification program.
In addition to reply restriction, paying users will also be
able to access an upcoming video call feature, Premium-only polls,
Premium-only Spaces, and more.
However, it seems like X’s attempts at luring more users to subscribe
aren’t really all that effective, considering that there are still less than
0.5% people of the total userbase that have signed up to the Premium package. Perhaps
this also why X is planning to launch a lower priced tier for X premium, as
revealed by the CEO Elon Musk himself during a conversation with Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The cost of the current premium package is $US8, which is
most likely expensive for users in the developing regions. While there is yet
no information on how cheap the lower priced package would be, it seems like
the initiative could be a good way to build users’ interest in accessing
exclusive features.
