Meta’s Verified program for creators that was originally launched
in February is now being exclusively rolled out to businesses on Meta’s
platforms – Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
By purchasing a verified checkmark, businesses will be able to maintain a more authoritative and legitimate presence on Meta’s platforms. The package costs $US21.99 for a month when purchased on the website and $US27.99 via mobile sign-up. Meta is also planning to offer businesses a combination package priced at $US34.99, via which they can obtain verification of both their Facebook and Instagram pages at once.
For creators, however, the prices for the Verification program are slightly lower, with each checkmark costing at least $US24.98 a month.
In addition to having a verification badge, Meta claims that
the program will provide businesses greater protection against potential impersonation
attempts, as well as offer some extra support and help regarding account issues.
Businesses that are Meta Verified would also have a greater likelihood of being
discovered across Meta’s platforms.
One interesting thing to note is that Meta offered creators greater
reach with the same verification program but removed it just after some time of
testing it. This implies that while Meta is promising businesses improved discovery,
which is similar to improved reach, one can’t be sure if this element would ultimately
remain or not. Moreover, there is no elaboration on how exactly Meta will ensure
that verified businesses are more discoverable.
