Madison Trust has explored this inquiry and unveiled their findings in a fresh infographic that scrutinizes the world's largest landowners. Their research uncovers that the current reigning landowner worldwide is King Charles III of England, alongside the British Royal Family. Together, they possess a staggering expanse exceeding 6.6 billion acres of land across the globe, constituting a sixth of the planet's surface. Their ownership extends to various territories worldwide, including the United Kingdom and Canada. Another significant landowner identified is the Catholic Church, which possesses an extensive land portfolio of 177 million acres worldwide. This encompasses churches, farms, schools, and notable religious sites like farmland, the Apostolic Palace, and the Scala Sancta. Ranking as the third-largest landowner globally are the Inuit people of Nunavut in Canada. Through the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement Act of 1993, the Canadian government and the government of the Northwest Territories granted the Inuit people ownership of Nunavut—a separate territory spanning approximately 87 million acres.
