OpenAI has
launched a free-to-use ChatGPT app for iOS and plans to launch one for Android
in the near future as well. The app can be downloaded on an iPhone or iPad from
Apple’s App Store.
Chat GPT was originally launched as an experiment last November, that quickly gained popularity and found a large number of consumer audience that has been using the technology on the go for a range of purposes. Later in February, a premium offering of Chat GPT, for $20 a month, was released with exclusive features including priority access, faster response time, and access to OpenAI’s latest language model, GPT-4.
Up until
now, people have been relying on Microsoft’s Bing app to access OpenAI’s
language models on mobile, or being scammed into downloading fake apps that
claim offering access to ChatGPT. Once OpenAI’s official app rolls out, people
will gradually move from away from Microsoft and unreliable apps.
The ChatGPT app for iOS will offer the ability to sync complete
chats across devices, a voice input functionality ‘Whisper,’ which is
essentially OpenAI’s speech-recognition system, as well all the latest model
improvements.
The app’s roll out will begin in the US and expand to more
countries in the coming weeks. “As we gather user feedback, we’re committed to
continuous feature and safety improvements for ChatGPT,” says OpenAI.
