TikTok is reportedly developing a new AI-powered tool that
is capable of generating avatars for users’ profile images.
The way this feature is speculated to work is by requiring a
user to upload three to ten photos of themselves, which the image generator
will work with and produce it in several variations and styles. The user will
then be able to pick their favourite one.
The prototype of the image generator also shows a disclaimer
from TikTok saying that the image results could be inaccurate or incomplete “as
with any technology.” In addition to that, there are also a couple tips from
TikTok to help users submit their best photo. These include selecting well-lit
photos and making sure that one’s face is not cropped or covered.
App researcher Matt Navarra, who discovered the feature, also
noticed that it seems to be a part of a subscription offering from TikTok, indicated
by the word “Plus” within the descriptions related to the tool.
