LinkedIn is launching a new verification system to enable
users to verify their identity and workplace, and obtain free of cost digital
workplace IDs as a result. Necessary information is collected through a user’s
company-issued email address, CLEAR, or Microsoft’s Entra verified ID platform.
All verifications are represented with a green and blue check on users’ profiles. Moreover, if a user verifies their ID via CLEAR, then they can display the verification on their LinkedIn profile, authenticated by a US government-issued ID and US phone number.
The email address verification tool is available to all
LinkedIn users who are employed at any of the companies among the ones that
LinkedIn supports, more than 4000 of them. The Microsoft Entra verification
tool, meanwhile, will be available to 2 million LinkedIn members at the end of
April.
The need for online authentication has increased ever since companies
have started hiring more and more people remotely, since the Covid pandemic,
which has resulted in more people pretending to be someone else or belonging to
a certain company.
The digital workplace IDs obtained by LinkedIn users are
multi-purpose – in addition to providing verification on LinkedIn, they can be
used for background checks, loan applications, rewards programs, and more.
