What could be a better way getting detailed information about
work culture of a company than to hear from those who have already been on the
inside?
The infographic used here shows how America’s top employers have changed over the last five years based on employee reviews on Glassdoor, a website that lets present and previous employees to anonymously review their employers on areas like company culture, pay, benefits, diversity, and more.
Tech Fares Best
Regardless of wide scale layoffs in 2022, technology companies
made up more than 40% of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list in 2023. A
customer success software company founded in 2009, Gainsight, entered the top
15 ranking for the first time in five years and grabbed the number one spot as
the year’s best employer.
It is a fact that technology companies have control over the
Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work list. Though Companies like HubSpot and NVIDIA
are fastens on the list, with constant admiration from their employees when it
comes to factors like pay, benefits, leadership, and career growth.

Although technology industry is likely to be more popular
among employees, the industry is not the end-all-be-all when it comes to good
employee reviews.
For instance, Bain & Company, a management consulting
firm which caters 10,000 employees, and has consistently been ranking in the
top three over the last five years. Or the fast food chain In-N-Out Burger,
whose employees constantly admire about their good pay and flexible working
hours in anonymous. Glassdoor reviews, making the company one of America’s top
20 employers since 2015.
Analyzing Ranking by Company
Going deep into the ranking by company can help in better understanding
of how some of the giants compare to others in the field.
What captures attention here is that two regular winners in
this field, Apple and Meta, did not make the top 100 this year. Salesforce’s
ranking also fell below the top 50 for the first time since 2015, coming in at
#75. While tech did relatively well in 2023, these companies fell down and off
the list, making it easier for smaller tech companies like Gainsight, Box, and
MathWorks to secure better spots on the list.
As the global economy faces instability in 2023, it will be interesting to note how these companies fare in terms of employee satisfaction. Against the backdrop of downsizings and slower economic growth, how leadership navigates hard conversations and steps up for their employees may be very telling, possibly resulting in a completely different makeup of the list in 2024.
