Some lucky Americans are able to afford second homes, which are often used to spend their vacations or rent out to other people looking to take a trip. Certain locations, particularly along the ocean coastlines and lakeshores, make for popular second homes. The following graphic from Madison Trust maps out where the cities with the most second homes are located. The first two metropolitan areas on the list are Marinette, WI and Salisbury, MD (which is where Ocean City, MD is located). The third metro area on the list is Edwards, CO, which is close to popular ski resorts Beaver Creek and Vail. Many people have (or rent out) second homes near ski mountains to enjoy during the winter months. Fourth on the list is Myrtle Beach, SC. This resort town is one of the most popular in the United States and sees more than 19 million visitors each year.
