Through a new tag option on TikTok, users will now be able
to select movies or TV shows to link within their TikTok clips. The feature is developed
in collaboration with IMDb.
The tagged movies / TV shows will contain their IMDb links, which will provide more information regarding the content, such as release date, cast notes, etc. Users can find these tags above the video captions.
The tagged movies / TV shows can also be saved by other
users, hence making it easy for anyone to access the content any time later. In
addition to that, users will be able to discover a list of other clips on the
app that have the same content tagged in them.
TikTok has integrated this feature to provide direct
promotion of material from films and TV shows that is displayed in clips shared
on the platform. According to the company itself, a large chunk of TikTok
videos contain content from movies and TV shows, making up about 25 billion
views in the app. This indicates an opportunity for filmmakers to promote their
content via TikTok, along with more context and direct interaction with films
and shows for users.
The new tag feature will be rolled out to TikTok users in
the US, followed by the UK, and ultimately other regions.
