The United States loves their beer. They are the #1 beer importer in the world by a very large margin spending $6,626,085,000 a year compared to the number 2 ranked importer, France which spends $1,031,230,000 per year on beer. Imports range from light lagers to hoppy IPAs, rich stouts and porters. The craft beer movement, which began in the 1980s and 1990s, has also had a significant impact on the beer industry, with many small and independent breweries now producing high-quality, innovative beers. This map shows the most popular type of beer in each state of the US as well as the most popular brand. What can we learn from this? Well Americans overwhelmingly prefer a good old ale which has been around since the medieval era and can have many different types. Coors and Coors Light, Corona and Keystone are all types of ales that are popular throughout the US. People in Connecticut prefer a Pilsner and Californians prefer IPAs.
