YouTube has been testing its Queue feature for iOS and
Android versions of the app for about a month. The feature has been available
on YouTube’s desktop version and the YouTube Music app, and allows a user to stack
videos into a temporary playlist.
The way the queuing option works on the app is by displaying
a ‘play last in queue’ button next to a video thumbnail. If you tap on the
button while watching another video, your desired video will be added last in
the queue and will play after your current video stops playing. If you tap on
the button when you are not watching any video, your desired video will be
added to a new queue.
Videos stacked in a queue play one after another automatically – when one video ends, the next video in the sequence starts playing. There are also options to rearrange and remove the videos. Moreover, if you close the player by tapping the X button in the bottom bar or by quitting the app, your current queue will be automatically deleted. The app may also notify you before removing your queue.
YouTube is currently testing the Queue feature only with
subscribers of YouTube Premium, which means that the feature will likely be an
exclusive addition to the app even after its complete roll out. Premium subscribers
can enable the option in YouTube app by visiting Settings and selecting the ‘try
new features’ option, then scrolling to ‘Queue’ and finally selecting ‘try it
out.’
YouTube has revealed that the test is going to last till January
28.
