Instagram has launched a new recovery center that is aimed
at helping users retrieve their profiles after being logged out of their accounts
due to hacking, forgetting password, losing access to two-factor authentication
or account being disabled.
The recovery center can be accessed from https://www.instagram.com/hacked/,
which provides a step-by-step guide of the process of getting an account back. In
addition to that, users will also be able to refer to any two of their Instagram
friends, so as to confirm their identity in case of being locked out of their
account.
Alongside that, Instagram is bringing new tools to reduce impersonation
attempts in the app as well. One of these is in the form of alerts that notify
users if any suspicious account requesting to follow them is detected by
Instagram for impersonation. Instagram states that in the coming months, it will
also send warnings if an account that may be impersonating a business sends Direct
Messages to a user.
The other tool is Instagram’s Verification Badge that it is
expanding to more surfaces in the app. The badges will help users identify if
the account they are interacting with is authentic. “In addition to Profiles,
you can now see verified blue badges in Stories and DMs and coming soon, Feed,”
announced Instagram.
