After Elon Musk announced and launched the $8 plan for
Twitter Blue last month, the decision was taken back as the plan was suspended
just a few days later. However, to our surprise, the $8 verification is
going into effect once again and this time, with a major change that is probably more disappointing than the original decision.
The tweak has to do with the subscription’s price, which is
now at $11 for iOS users, while the cost remains the same for web users. There is
a reason behind it, and that is Apple’s 30% in-app payment policy that Twitter
has decided to simply pass on to the subscribers instead of working out another
alternative.
we’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday – subscribe on web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark 🧵 pic.twitter.com/DvvsLoSO50

The raise in the subscription pricing for iOS might mean
that fewer users would be signing up for the subscription now, but we never know
how much people on Twitter could be willing to give up just to obtain a blue
checkmark for their accounts and enjoy other special features.
In addition to the current exclusive features offered in
Twitter Blue, subscribers could possibly get access to some other benefits in
the future, in the light of what Twitter has previously hinted at. These could include
more exposure to your tweets which would appear in replies, mentions, and
search; seeing fewer ads, about half of them; and the ability to post longer
videos.
The greatest benefit that subscribers will be getting from Twitter
Blue is limited chances of potential problems with impersonation. As Twitter
had stated earlier, its strict verification system will make sure to verify the applicant’s phone number and profile name,
and subject a subscriber to scrutiny upon detecting any change in their Twitter
handle, display name or profile photo after providing them the checkmark.
