CNBC has recently reported that the streaming platform being
created from the merging of HBO Max and Discovery Plus is in the process of
being named by the legal team of Warner Bros. Discovery. While most likely the
platform is going to be called ‘Max,’ other potential options for names are
also being considered. In the meantime, the company has been internally
referring to the app with the codename ‘BEAM.’
CNBC’s report further informs that the combined platform will obtain inspirations from Disney Plus, while it organizes Warner Bros. Discovery properties into different “hubs;” similar to how Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and other subsidiaries of Walt Disney Studios have been separated by the parent company.
While the cost of the new streaming app has not been
revealed yet, it is reported that CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav,
plans to maximize profit via an increased number of subscriptions, in addition to
raising advertising revenue.
Currently, both HBO Max and Discovery Plus’ monthly subscription offers come with ads that are priced at a lower amount as compared to the ad-free plans. Third quarter report shows that the combined number of global subscribers achieved by the two services was close to 95 million.
