Meta has been experimenting with ways to facilitate
businesses on WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app in the world right now,
among which is a new update that allows searching for businesses by name or
category directly in the app.
The business search tool will consist of a mini map to help
users locate the business they’re looking for, as well as other nearby businesses.
The category filters, along with indications of verified business accounts will
add to the feasibility of the process.
Meta has also clarified that the businesses that users search for will not be linked back to their accounts. Moreover, the process will preserve users’ privacy. “To start, we’re bringing the ability to search for a business to Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, and the UK where people can find companies using our WhatsApp Business Platform. In Brazil, search will help people find small businesses as well,” states Meta.
WhatsApp usage is currently on the rise, particularly in the
US, which means that businesses are being offered the opportunity to rely on
the app as a means of connecting with their audiences.
In another announcement, Meta has stated that it is expanding
WhatsApp payments that it first launched in India. “We’re excited to now be
testing this in Brazil with multiple payment partners,” confirmed the company. The
functionality enables users to make secure payments in the app via credit/debit
card. This will likely serve as another reliable experience for businesses and
consumers by enabling them to buy and sell on the platform in a simple and
hassle-free manner.
