After Twitter announced that it would begin charging $8 per
month for account verification, the company is now introducing a new identity verification
tool in the form of a new tick displayed in grey colour.
This checkmark is meant to indicate the official identity of certain accounts only, including government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures, as per Twitter.
The grey tick, unlike the blue one, will only be displayed
on profiles of the verified accounts, which means that users will not be able
to view it on tweets posted by the accounts. Another difference between the
blue and grey ticks is that the latter is not part of the $8 per month package.
