England's national team pays tribute to its country, the birthplace of football, by being the highest-valued team at the 2022 World Cup. According to data from the Transfermarkt website, England’s football players are a worth of total of 1.26 billion euros. This number is worth the gross domestic product of a small country such as Grenada or the Seychelles. For the moment, if we hypothetically combine the national teams of Spain and Argentina, and for instance we sell all their players at market value, that sum of money could cover UNESCO’s total budget for a year. The figure would be around US$1.5 billion.
In terms of market value of the teams, three Latin American countries are among the top ten teams at the Qatar World Cup 2022. Brazil, the team which is valued at more than 1.1 billion euros, unsurprisingly takes the first place. The Argentine national team ranks second regionally, and seventh globally, with a squad worth around 633 million. This value is just over half the value of its neighbor and traditional soccer rival, Brazil. Meanwhile, the national team of Uruguay, is perhaps among one of the most unexpected in this ranking, at a value of 450 million euros. It comes at number tenth ranking of the most expensive teams that will play in Qatar 2022.
