The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many aspects of work including how employees communicate, travel, and attend events. More people are using email and video conferencing to communicate, employees who frequently travel for business are looking forward to staying off the road, and those who attended digital events in 2020 are planning to attend virtual events at least as often as they attended physical events before the pandemic. In fact, digital platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams have made it easier to interact online, although digital communication has its own challenges like issues with technology or productivity. Nonetheless, businesses can still benefit from less travel and commute, reduced costs, and increased team engagement through virtual events. Hybrid events can especially create a great experience for both physical and virtual attendees with their main event and virtual components. The use of gamification and the metaverse can additionally increase event engagement and retention as well as create a more immersive experience for attendees.
Focusing more on creating the “wow” factor for events by using customized graphics and layouts, offering access to a variety of on-demand breakout sessions, and creating a digital campus that allows participants to attend events, interact with others, and network can help businesses attract new audiences while boosting event engagement.
