WhatsApp Introduces ‘Communities’ – Topic Based Discussions for Group Chats - Visualistan -->

    Social Items

WhatsApp has released a new engagement feature for group chats called Communities, which is aimed to create organized conversations between multiple groups.

WhatsApp users will be able to connect groups under one common and relevant topic, and switch between these groups in the Community. A description and list of subgroups will be displayed in the Community.

The feature could also be helpful for brands that wish to organize chats related to their products or services by connecting potential customers in one place. This could help reduce the time and effort of marketing via individual messaging and social posting.

There could, however, also be a downside to the functionality, as it could give people and groups an easy way to create anti-social and criminal networks.

Communities can be accessed via a new tab displayed at the top of WhatsApp chats on Android, and at the bottom on iOS devices in the app’s latest version.
