The internet has spent over 30 years transforming the way people work. Levels of global connectivity unseen by prior generations is possible today. In the newest era of the internet (Web3), over 18,000 developers are actively contributing to open source projects like blockchain and decentralized finance. Today, the Web3 technologies provide millions of people the tools and platform to take control of their working lives. Self-driven careers mean different things to different people. For some, the term means to become self-employed. Independent work can generate more revenue than salaried work because payment for goods and services is shared with fewer people. There could be 90 million self-employed people in America by 2028. For others, finding a self-driven career just means taking a job with more flexibility. Flexibility may come in the form of flexible hours and leaving the 9-5 behind. It may also mean allowing work from any location.
