The use of different social media platforms has been
increasing especially after Covid-19, all around the world. Social media users
even embrace new services, as the fast rise of video sharing platform TikTok
shows. An estimated number of active social media users worldwide is 4.6 billion
in 2022 or we can say around 60 percent of the world’s population. According to
projections by Statista Advertising. & Media Outlook, this figure is expected
to rise to nearly 6 billion by 2027.
TikTok stands out from the competition because it has an extraordinary rate of growth. Between the years 2018 and 2022, TikTok attracted an average of 340 million new active members each year. After it hit the one-billion-user mark because of the digital boom flashed by the Covid-19 pandemic, TikTok left Instagram behind for the number of users in 2021. It can be predicted by looking at the current growth rate of TikTok users that the user base will reach up to 2 billion by 2024. These figures are predicted by keeping in view that growth rate decreases with passing years and maybe a new star will appear on the social media scene.
With a lot of competition coming in the social media networks each year, and even though its growth rate has slowed down in the recent years, still Facebook is the biggest social network. It has more than 2.6 billion active accounts in 2022 and is projected to grow to approximately 3 billion by 2025. While TikTok is rapidly growing, it has more than 1.7 billion active users in 2022 and instagram comes after with 1.2 billion active users.
