Twitter is introducing a new way to enhance engagement across
its app, which combines Spaces and Communities to provide users with the ability
to interact with one another using live audio conversations specific to Communities
and topics.
Twitter describes the functionality as what “adds an extra
layer of personality and connectivity beyond 280 characters.”
Communities 🤝 Spaces

starting today we’re rolling out the Community Spaces test where some admins + mods will be able to host Spaces in their Communities pic.twitter.com/gdlxR9IZiH
Twitter is currently testing Community Spaces in the US with some admins and moderators on the app who will be able to host Spaces in their Communities. These audio chats will only be visible within the groups.
“Community admins will be able to better lead their
Communities, engage their members, and participate in quality conversations
with others who share the same interests,” adds Twitter.
Members of a Community will receive a notification when a
Space is launched, which will be highlighted at the top of the timeline in the
Space bar. Moreover, a Space could be seen and joined by anyone who visits a Community,
however, only members of the host Community will be able to reply and engage in
the Space.
Spaces haven’t taken much of the spotlight on Twitter due to
their reduced discovery as a result of an ineffective algorithm system. Introducing
the functionality directly in Communities could therefore enhance its discovery
by encouraging users to join groups focused on topics that they are interested
in. Additionally, brands can take advantage of the feature too by hosting audio
conversations within their branded Communities, revolving around product
previews or exclusive chats with top fans.
