US history doesn't have to be boring. For example, this map of the oldest buildings and dwellings in each US state would make for a great road trip, even if just virtually. These dwellings start in the year 1200 and earlier, with the oldest on the list being from 1864. Some of the places here are earth dwellings like the West Oak Forest Earthlodge Site in Glenwood, Iowa which is believed to have been built in 1250-1400 and inhabited by indigenous people of the region. Others are structures like the Nothnagle Log House in Gibbstown, New Jersey built in the year 1638. America's oldest tavern was built in 1673 in Newport, Rhode Island, and was a meeting place for all kinds of folks from the Founding Fathers to pirates. It would be fun to travel the US and visit each one of these on the map, expanding your knowledge of US history along the way.
