The Pandemic due to Covid-19 brought a lot of changes to the
economy worldwide hence affecting the livability of many urban cities as the
whole world faced consequences and major businesses were shut. Now, as things
have gone back to normal, many of the urban cities have become desired places
to live yet again.
Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) states the world’s most livable cities based on different categories. The ranking is done on the basis of five categories listed below. It also shows the weightage of each category. A score on 30 qualitative and quantitative measures across these categories is assigned.
Culture & Environment (25%)
Education (10%)
Healthcare (20%)
Infrastructure (20%)
Stability (25%)
The qualitative factors are allocated as intolerable,
undesirable, uncomfortable, tolerable, or acceptable by the team of
professional analysts. Quantitative measures are given a score which is based
on number of external data points. All the data is then quantified to provide a
score between 1 and 100, 100 being the ideal score.
Top 10 most livable cities
Out of the 172 cities that are a part of rankings, many
cities are located in Europe. However, in the list of top ten, three cities are
from Canada: Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto. Vienna however, has been on the
top of the list many times. It was number one in last 2019, but fell out of the
list during the pandemic because of its famous museums and restaurants being
shut.

Most of the least livable cities belong to conflict zones
which is why they have low ratings. However, these regions are also home to some
of the fastest growing cities offering many great opportunities to their
determined residents.
