YouTube has introduced watermarks that would be
automatically added to downloaded Shorts clips that users would want to share
across other platforms, in an attempt to inform viewers that the videos can be
originally found on YouTube.
While YouTube seems to have released this new option to help promote content originally created on its platform, on the contrary however, it could also limit sharing of the content on other apps due to some platforms’ policy of penalizing content that includes visible watermarks.
Regardless, YouTube’s approach is not entirely original, as
platforms like TikTok and Instagram also enable creators to download videos and
Reels with watermarks.
The new Shorts watermarks will initially be available on
desktop and expanded to mobile soon, according to YouTube.
