In 2022, gas prices have not been kind to the wallets of those living in the United States. This year alone, the average cost of a gallon of gas has been $4.90, the highest that it has been in nearly 40 years. Not only that, but it's the first time in nearly a decade where the average cost of a gallon of gas in the United States has been over $4.00 ($4.11 per gallon of gas in 2014). From the research team at TitleMax comes this infographic which looks at the average gas prices in the United States throughout history, spanning from 1929 through 2022. Not only does this infographic show the average price of gas in each given year shown, but it also displays what that average cost would be today in 2022, as a result of inflation. In 1929, at the beginning of the Great Depression, the average cost of gas in today's dollars would be $3.59 a gallon – nearly $1.50 cheaper than it is today in 2022!
