According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban
Habitat, the most skyscrapers that are more than 200 meters tall are located in
the metropolis of Shenzhen in the southern Guangdong province of China. The very
first high-rise in Shenzhen dates back to 1985 which was at over 150 meters
high. Since then, more high-rises kept building and now there are 120 of them. Each
of these skyscrapers reach above the 200 meters mark. Talking about new constructions,
almost 162 of high-rise buildings measuring 159 meters and up are in the
process of construction. Out of 162, 40 are planned to be completed by the year
2022.
The capital of United Arab Emirates (UAE) comes next in line with only 13 skyscrapers short of Shenzhen. It has a total of 107 of these buildings. Other tan these, Dubai owns the tallest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa. This huge tower has a height of around 828 meters.
In the list of top 8 cities having tallest high-rises, New York
is the only state of United States (US) to be included. It has a total of 92
skyscrapers that reach over 200 meters. In New York City, at least 21 new
skyscrapers are being planned to be built in the coming years.
Other cities that come in the list are Hong Kong with a
total of 94 skyscrapers. Two other big cities of China are next in the list. Shanghai
having 60 and Chongqing with 54 of them. The last on the list are Kuala Lumpur
and Jakarta having 51 and 46 of skyscrapers each.
