Instagram users have been noticing the way the app has
changed over time in terms of its layout that looks more similar to TikTok now,
and they aren’t happy with it. Many users have voiced their concerns, including
celebrity stars Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, which Instagram chief Adam
Mosseri has taken into account and addressed in a video message.
In the video, Mosseri can be seen explaining the way Instagram has been evolving and the reasons for the various changes in the app. The first thing he highlights is the new full screen experience on the feed, which he explains is a mere experiment that Instagram is currently running, meaning that only some users are seeing the layout change.
As for Instagram’s increasing focus on videos, Mosseri assures users that the company still considers photos a part of its heritage, but is simultaneously
giving more attention to videos, as it is an element that many users have increasingly started
to engage with and enjoy.
Mosseri also speaks about the complaints regarding in-stream
recommendations, and explains that Instagram chooses to support creators, especially
small creators on the app to reach more people via recommended content. According
to him, users could however, snooze recommendations if they wish to not come
across them while scrolling through their feed.
One thing is certain; whether or not Instagram users are
happy with the changes in the app, the company is going to continue updating the
app in alignment with latest trends and preferences, especially following the direction
of TikTok’s strategies.
