Meta’s previously known Data Policy has now been updated to
Privacy Policy, which highlights the company’s advancing data practices, in alignment
with the evolving global privacy regulations. It is also based on feedback from
users and privacy experts.
About the update, Meta stated “We’ve always set out to build
personalized experiences that provide value without compromising your privacy.
So, it’s on us to have strong protections for the data we use and be
transparent about how we use it.”
Since the company is ensuring more transparency to users
regarding its data collection practices, it has added clearer explanations and
used illustrations to describe the details. The illustrations would be helpful
for users to understand various scenarios of data collection and use, and
consequently, better assist them to take any action that they might ever want
to take.
Meta is also trying to alert users about the policy update using new in-app prompts, although it is unlikely that most users would bother reading the details or updating their privacy settings.
In addition to this, Meta is updating its Terms of Service as well,
which provides more context about what the company expects from people who use its
platforms.
Meta’s updated Privacy Policy is expected to go into effect in
July.
