Google claims that the latest version of Chrome (version M99) is faster and more responsive on Macs than Safari. The company further adds that its browser is the fastest on M1 Macs, setting a record with a benchmark of around 7 percent more speed than Safari.
Apple’s own Speedometer web benchmark confirms the Chrome M99’s record-breaking speed. The tests were run on a 14-inch MacBook Pro with a 10-core M1 Max chip and 64 GB of RAM, according to Google.
While Chrome can be appreciated for its impressive speed,
the browser does get complaints about taking up plenty of space in memory, which
perhaps doesn’t make it a better competitor than Safari after all.
