Some parents see smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol and taking drugs as an inevitable part of growing up. You probably heard people calling substance use by juveniles “experiments”. A relaxed attitude to this problem is probably one of the reasons why teens’ substance abuse rates are so high. You can find the numbers in this infographic. It does happen that a teenager’s substance addiction starts as a mere experiment or from an occasional pill at a party. Addiction is a serious progressive disease that needs to be treated, and the sooner the better.
Luckily, teenagers rehab centers that offer youth addiction recovery programs exist. Typically, a teen receives around-the-clock treatment services in residential facilities. They involve medical detox (to address a withdrawal syndrome), cognitive behavioral therapy (to find out the underlying reasons for substance abuse), and family therapy and support. Alternative services can include holistic methods, tutoring and educational support, sports activities, etc.
