If you’re like millions of other Americans in 2022, when you go to buy a drink from the gas station or grocery store, you’re no longer reaching for things like sodas, but you’re option for the new fruity, functional water or the ready-to-drink tea or cold brew coffee. As a society, Americans have steadily been shifting their habits to drinking healthier options and the beverage industry is certainly keeping up with our demands. In 2019, the non-alcoholic beverage industry reached $919 billion in sales, and the alcoholic market was at $250. Obviously, we aren’t drinking any less than before, but our healthier outlook has given rise to newer beverage categories. The five main categories that have seen massive growth in recent years are those of functional waters, organic beverages, ready-to-drink coffees and teas with a variety of formats, traditional teas with new add-ins and flavors, and alcoholic beverages with functional add-ins, or even “mocktails” with no alcoholic content. Americans are changing the way they consume drinks and the beverage industry is making it easier than ever to find drinks that fit in with our health and fitness goals.
