The tweet that had the most retweets was from the global
artists BTS who sent out a message with the hashtag #StopAsianHate, in support
of racial equality and tolerance.
Majority of the tweets in 2021 have been about movies and TV shows, which makes sense considering how people were compelled to stay indoors during the pandemic and turned to entertainment on their screens.
Tweets that mentioned movies of the year included titles
like Black Panther, Godzilla Vs. Kong, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The
Suicide Squad (2021), Spider-Man: No Way Home, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Black
Widow, Dune (2021), Mortal Kombat (2021), and Shrek. The top tweets that
mentioned some of the most famous TV shows included titles of reality shows like
Big Brother Brasil, A Fazenda 13, and of course the Korean masterpiece Squid
Game that took over the world in a few days with its unique theme.
Twitter’s data also shows the most discussed sports teams
and events, and the most used emojis across the platform.
Twitter’s 2021 data shows how much bigger the platform has
become in the recent years, with more international trends and expansive
conversations taking place across it.
