This holiday season, many consumers will find it difficult to find and receive some of the electronic devices they’re looking for to give to family and friends. Unfortunately, the shipping industry has also fallen victim to the global effects of the COVID pandemic, and 50% of consumers are seeing that items they want are already out of stock. Unfortunately, new tech is getting hit especially hard as, not only are the new devices not able to meet the demand, but continued chip shortages are preventing more devices from being manufactured. Not only that, but with the rising costs of shipping containers, air freight, trucking, and items themselves, the average price hike is $50 per device. Compared to 2019, we’re seeing an out-of-stock percentage that’s 360% greater than it was two years ago.
Now, more than ever, is the time to embrace the idea that tech devices don’t have to be brand new to be great. Repairing and re-gifting devices can actually be a better option regardless of the supply and demand issues. Repaired tech can be restored to like-new conditions and still be used for several more years. It also tends to come with a much better price tag and is also eco-friendly. Repairing and re-gifting is just a better idea.
