“A watermelon grew to HOW many pounds!?” you may hear yourself exclaim after reading through this compendium of some of the biggest fruits and vegetables to grow on this planet. The team at HowLongToCook.org compiled forty-three of the largest fruits and vegetables of all time, and they have the official records to prove it! You won’t believe some of the weights and widths these record-breaking fruits and veggies grew to. Now back to the watermelon, which was one of the most mind-blowing records on the list.
In 2013 a Christopher Kent grew a watermelon that reached a whopping 350 pounds and 8 ounces, or 150 kilograms. To put it into perspective, that’s roughly the same weight as your refrigerator. The most impressive piece of produce on the list though, is the pumpkin. The biggest one on record weighed in at over 2,700 pounds (1,226 kg)! How large did your favorite piece of fruit or vegetable grow to be?
